W. Blount Ellison, MD

Dr. W. Blount Ellison has been practicing cardiology for over 35 years. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Internal Medicine and focuses on clinical cardiology and coronary interventions.

Dr. Ellison attended the University of Virginia before attending medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. He graduated in 1975 before working as an Intern at MUSC for one year. Dr. Ellison also completed residency in Interventional Medicine at MUSC in 1978. He relocated to Washington D.C. where he completed his Cardiology fellowship at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

He is currently a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He enjoys nature photography, long distance cycling, fishing and reading. He has been married for 38 years, has three children, and ten grandchildren.

Dr. Ellison enjoys the "thinking and the doing" involved in cardiology. For him, diagnosing challenges his mind while procedures allow him to work with his hands while improving people's health.


Jeffrey S. Rieder, MD

Dr. Jeffrey Rieder completed an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at Emory University. He graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York in 1991. His post graduate training took him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee from 1991-1994 for his internship and residency in Internal Medicine. He completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Rieder has received several honors and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiology, Internal Medicine and Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Rieder is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a member of the Medical Society of South Carolina and the Charleston County Medical Society.

Dr. Rieder is a car fanatic, enjoys skiing and being with his family during his time off.


Lars H. Runquist, MD

Dr. Lars Runquist completed his undergraduate work at Vanderbilt University before completing medical school at the University of Tennessee in 1995. He then moved to Charleston where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine as well as fellowships in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Runquist is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. He is also an active member of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He is a member of Medical Society of South Carolina as well.

Dr. Runquist's medical interests involve invasive cardiology. He actively lectures on chest pain, heart attacks, drug eluding stents and pacemakers. Dr. Runquist also believes in aggressive cardiac screening and lipid evaluation. This includes calcium scoring and Berkeley Heart lab evaluations of different cholesterol particles. He loves the fast pace of cardiology and the importance of staying up to date with modern technology and medicine. Additonally, he is also the director of cardiac rehabilitation at Roper St Francis.

Dr. Runquist enjoys hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. His wife is a popular oil painter in Charleston.

Matthew B. O'Steen, MD

Dr. Matthew O'Steen is from Blackshear, Georgia and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia before going on to Mercer University for his medical degree. He then completed his residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. After Emory he attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas completing a fellowship in Cardiology.

Dr. O'Steen specializes in general and Interventional Cardiology with a focus on peripheral vascular disease and structural heart disease. The new challenges encountered each day and his joy of helping people is what motivates him.

Dr. O'Steen is an avid salt water fisherman and hunter and enjoys spending time with his wife and children.

Troy A. Bunting, MD

Dr. Troy Bunting has been practicing cardiology since obtaining his medical degree in 2000 from UNC School of Medicine. He then came to Charleston, South Carolina for his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina before going to Boston, Massachusetts where he completed his fellowship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School in 2007.

Dr. Bunting is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Clinical Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology and has been practicing cardiology at Coastal Cardiology since leaving Boston. He has a strong interest in interventional cardiology and valvular heart disease with an emphasis on new innovative technologies.

He enjoys playing tennis and jogging and spending time with his wife and children. Patient interactions and relationships are what Dr. Bunting enjoys most about practicing cardiology.

Minh K. Tran, DO

Dr. Minh Tran received his medical degree in 2009 at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC in 2012. He also completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at East Carolina University in 2015. In 2014, he was appointed Chief Fellow of Cardiovascular Sciences at the Brody SOM at ECU. He won the award for “Fellow of the Year” in 2015.

He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and holds a certification from both the National Board of Echocardiography as well as the Board of Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Tran’s clinical focus is on cardiac imaging and its utility in the clinical spectrum of cardiac diagnostic tools.

Dr. Tran was born in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon City), Vietnam. He is fluent in Vietnamese. He emigrated with his family to New York when he was 10 years old. He is a health and fitness enthusiast with a passion for exercise and weight training. He also enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures as well as trying new and different foods. Dr. Tran enjoys meeting patients and helping them with their cardiac needs.

Kelly S. Guerrero, PA-C

Kelly is a native of Lexington, Kentucky and graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 2006 with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science and Health Studies. After graduation, Kelly made her way to Charleston, South Carolina to attend the Medical University of South Carolina. During this intense twenty-seven month program, her time was split between classroom work and clinical rotations. Her exposure to cardiology came early in her rotations when she met Dr. Rieder. She completed three of her preceptorships with Coastal Cardiology and started working with the practice soon after graduation. Kelly graduated with her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies in August 2008.

Kelly has been with Coastal Cardiology since October of 2008 and shares her time as a PA to both Dr. Rieder and Dr. Runquist. She is a member of the American Academy of Physicians Assistants (AAPA) and the South Carolina Academy of Physicians Assistants (SCAPA). Kelly loves interaction with the patients and enjoys the relationships she is able to develop by spending time with patients and helping throughout their recovery process.

In her spare time, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, playing with her dog, Dupree and cooking.


Brett R. Dalmau, PA-C

Brett is a native of Destin, Florida and graduated from Florida State University in 2007 with a Bachelor's of Exercise Physiology. After graduation, Brett did post-baccalaureate research at the Florida State University Human Performance Laboratory. It was during this time that Brett became interested in the PA profession.

Brett made his way to Charleston, South Carolina to attend the Medical University of South Carolina, where he graduated with his Masters in Physician Assistant Studies in August of 2011.

Brett has been with Coastal Cardiology since December 2011 and shares his time as a PA with all the cardiologists.  He is a member of the American Academy of Physicians assistants as well as the Association of Physician Assistants in Cardiology.


Christy D. Hawkins, PA-C

Christy is from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 2005. After graduation, Christy worked as a clinical research associate in adolescent Psychiatry. She attended the Wake Forest University Physician Assistant Program and graduated in 2009 with a Master’s in Medical Science. Christy moved to Myrtle Beach and practiced Cardiology there for 4 years. She started at Coastal Cardiology after moving to Charleston in January 2014. She works with all the physicians in the practice.

She is a member of the American Academy of Physicians Assistants (AAPA) and the South Carolina Academy of Physicians Assistants (SCAPA). Christy enjoys spending time with her family and friends and loves to cook and travel.
